Certification

EXHEAT Industrial holds approvals from North America, Europe and globally through the IECEx scheme for the manufacture of electrical heating equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres:

EX Certification for Explosion Protection Equipment

The EX logo is a marking for explosion protection equipment. It indicates that the equipment or system complies with the harmonised standards necessary to meet the requirements of the 94/9/EC Directive (ATEX product Directive, named after the French "ATmosphere EXplosible").

The ATEX product Directive 94/9/EC became mandatory throughout the EU on 1 July 2003 along with the user Directive 1999/92/EC which covers the installation and use of Ex equipment. Previous Directives were repealed as of that date.

The products covered by the ATEX Directive are divided into different groups and categories and marked accordingly. Group I equipment is suitable for mining applications underground where methane may be present. Group II equipment is suitable for all surface applications including shipping and offshore.

The areas where an explosive atmosphere may present are termed Hazardous Areas and divided into Zones, based on how long and how frequently the explosive atmosphere is likely to be present. Category 1 equipment may be used in Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas. Category 2 equipment may be used in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas. Category 3 equipment may be used in a Zone 2 area only. Certification by a Notified Body is mandatory for equipment that is used in Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous areas.

EXHEAT ATEX heaters for hazardous areas are supplied CE marked in accordance with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and the latest CENELEC standards, certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.
